| Review: Superbad is a teen movie. It will also make comparisons with American Pie, the losers trying to get a set theme and occasional gross-out comedy. But this comparison is not fair - Superbad is more fun, more subversive, and, above all, a genuine movie like American Pie and its sequel is great. The three main characters can be trusted, the film's sympathetic relationship takes time to establish. Cera, Hill (who deserves special praise, turning what could be a truly unlikeable be sweet, if hard-mouthed and rude, adolescent), and Mintz-Plasse rebounds each other perfectly. This film creates a funny situation, and what Most importantly, funny dialogue around. Except for a bad comedy - too long (and less intelligent) gross of sight gag with pants and dance - Superbad had me laughing all the time. It's sweet, it's funny as hell, and is registered in a load of new talent. |
